E. Cortes

Born in Mexico City, E. Cortés de los Reyes has developed her artistic career as a painter in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo.

 

Wood has always been a fundamental element in the creation of her work. In her early years, she favored the use of reclaimed wood, and her small- and medium-format pieces have been distinguished by their vibrant use of color and contrasting tones, creating a powerful visual impact on the viewer. Her work is also recognized for its distinctive wooden structures, which have become an integral part of the unique style she has developed as a self-taught artist. As her artistic practice has evolved, she has also embraced canvas as a support, gradually creating works of increasingly larger dimensions.

Thematically, her work is deeply inspired by Mexican culture in its many expressions, exploring ancestral and popular traditions, everyday objects, native fauna and flora, culinary elements, as well as the country's landscapes and architectural heritage. A recurring theme throughout her work is death, through which she reveals the rich and diverse worlds of Mexican life that continue to fascinate and inspire.

A chronological journey through her body of work reveals a clear artistic and technical evolution, as well as the wide range of subjects she has explored throughout her career. Her artworks have found homes in private collections across numerous countries through collectors who have acquired one or more of her pieces, each of which is truly unique.
